Kašel: diagnostika a léčba v ambulanci praktického lékaře

Kašel je normální obranný reflex, charakteristický svým prudkým a usilovným výdechem, jehož cílem je očistit dýchací cesty od cizích těles a cizorodých látek. Symptomem se stává, když přetrvává. Pak se jeho obranný význam mění v komplikaci, která nutí pacienta, aby vyhledal svého praktického lékaře. Dle četnosti výskytu se považuje kašel za jeden z nejčastějších symptomů, pro který pacient vyhledá svého lékaře. Tato situace platí pro celý svět, Českou republiku nevyjímaje. Často je ale také podceňovaným příznakem závažného onemocnění, jehož rozpoznání je právě úkolem praktického lékaře. Nejednou je na rozpoznání příčiny kašle nutná mezioborová spolupráce praktika, internisty, pneumologa a alergologa nebo otorinolaryngologa a gastroenterologa.
