MUDr. Hana Roháčová

Lyme borreliosis numbers among the relatively common illnesses occurring in the Czech Republic. The clinical picture of Lyme borreliosis

is extremely varied; therefore, doctors from a range of specialties can encounter these patients. While clear-cut cases most often do not

present a diagnostic problem, there is a whole number of clinical pictures that are not at all typical. As a result, determining whether or

not the illness in question is indeed Lyme borreliosis can be much more difficult. This fact makes a knowledge of laboratory findings assessment

very important. This article should be of help in decision-making in the diagnosis and treatment of the illness. However, it should

be said at the outset that even specialists in this field can’t be completely certain of their diagnosis in the course of an initial examination.

Often it is only after the disease has progressed or the effects of treatment have become apparent that the diagnosis is certain.

Keywords: lyme borreliosis, post-borreliosis syndrome, serological examination, polymerase chain reaction, electron microscopy, antibiotic treatment.
