Pulmonary inflammations are primarily caused by an infection but can also be of non-infectious origin. The noninfectious ones, also
referred to as pneumonitides, include inhalation (often related to occupational exposure), hypersensitive (allergic) and iatrogenic
(drug-induced), hypostatic or idiopathic interstitial pneumonitides. The present article deals with mild community-acquired pneumonias
that can be treated on an outpatient basis as well as in the general practitioner’s surgery.
