Chronic kidney disease is common and has serious consequences for the patient but, in economic terms, for the whole society. Chronic
kidney disease is often asymptomatic and is recognized only after reaching the end stage, i. e. chronic kidney failure. Chronic kidney failure
(CKF) is a condition when renal function is decreased to such a degree that the kidneys are unable to maintain the normal composition of
the internal environment even under basal conditions, with special dietary and medical measures and in a balanced metabolic situation
of the organism, and it is necessary to initiate treatment with one of the methods to replace renal function. Elementary knowledge of the
treatment options, i.e. kidney transplantation, hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis, is essential for general nurses who provide nursing
care in inpatient or outpatient health care settings, in social care facilities and in one‘s own social environment.
