Acute lower limb ischemia is a serious disease with high morbidity and mortality if left untreated. The prognosis is significantly influenced
by the correct diagnosis and early initiation of therapy. Successful endovascular treatment of acute limb ischemia is illustrated
in the reported case of a 68 year old woman with acute vascular occlusion due to cardiac embolization. Causes of acute limb ischemia,
diagnostic procedures and treatment options are briefly discussed in this article.
