Dementia syndrome is caused by diffuse damage to the brain and is one of the most common and feared diseases of older people. A person loses the ability to perform meaningful activities, understand the surrounding events, loses self-sufficiency and gradually becomes dependent on another person. Disorders of memory, orientation, intellect, thinking, emotions, and social functions gradually develop. Non-pharmacological approaches are an important part of dementia management. The goal of non-pharmacological treatment is to preserve or improve the level of gross and fine motor skills, walking, self-sufficiency and cognitive functions, meaningful fulfillment of free time and activities of daily life, improvement of the patient's verbal and non-verbal communication with relatives and nurses, social workers, caregivers.

Keywords: dementia, seniors, cognitive functions, non‑pharmacological procedures.
