The advice from the general practitioner (GP) is the most influential factor that may convince patient to change the risky style of life and

make use of available methods of prevention including the vaccination. Passive attitude of the primary care physician may be considered

as a missed opportunity that may never repeat again in a specific patient and it also means giving up the effort to contribute to the reduction

of morbidity and mortality of the population in the Czech Republic. The increase of the vaccination rate in the Czech population

will not be achievable without an active participation of primary care physicians, not even with cooperation of all other specialities. The

role of GPs in this area in absolutely irreplaceable and it should not be reduced only to routine vaccination against tetanus and few flu

vaccines administered to patients under the risk. In addition to that, it is necessary to come out from the credible and scientificaly proven

sources and data and not to succumb to the pressure of various individuals forcing alternative medicine without relevant education,

practice and with no ability to use data in rational and logical way.
