Ve svém sdělení autoři seznamují se současným stavem problematiky chirurgického řešení chronické žilní insuficience. Vycházejí přitom z poslední metodiky klasifikace tohoto závažného onemocnění (CEAP) a problematiku chirurgického řešení rozdělují na chirurgii povrchního žilního systému, chirurgickou léčbu spojek (perforátorů) a možnosti chirurgického řešení v případě onemocnění hlubokého systému (problematika refluxu a obstrukce). Zdůrazňují nutnost komplexního přístupu ke každému pacientovi a vyzdvihují význam kompresivní a medikamentózní terapie spolu s nezbytností přijetí režimových opatření jako celoživotní strategie v léčbě chronického stadia žilní insuficience.
