Pruritus at a GP‘s surgery

Pruritus is a specific sensation perceived as very unpleasant and annoying which results in compulsive scratching; when of longer

duration, the patient becomes neurotic. Pruritus may be caused by a variety of factors which most commonly include eczema, allergic

reactions, infectious and parasitic diseases, metabolic diseases and tumours.
