Ethical and communication aspects of terminal sedation

The aim of the palliative hospice care is to reach the highest possible quality of life of seriously ill patients and to keep their human dignity.

Terminal sedation is considered to be an optimal way in cases with intractable patients. This therapeutic approach is full of ethics and has

nothing in common with euthanasia. Sufficient enlightening to the patient and his/her family is crucial before starting this therapeutic



method: Lack of communication can be a tool that causes misunderstanding and conflicts.
