Diabetes mellitus is a grave illness with rising up incidence in the Czech population. Diabetic foot ulcers are serious late complication of
diabetes. Many pathophysiological factors participate on the diabetic ulcer healing failure: diabetic polyneuropathy, macroangiopathy
and microangiopathy, acquired immunological disorders and tissue reparation failures in diabetics, present co-morbidities or drug adverse
reactions. The most common external causes of diabetic ulcers are: calluses, burns, skin splits, alien bodies penetrating the skin,
small injuries, mould infections, ingrowth nails and dactylitis. The treatment and pathophysiology of diabetic foot ulcers are complex.
