Obesity - diagnosis and treatment in the general practitioner’s surgery

The role of the general practitioner in the field of obesity prevention and treatment is indispensable. The general practitioner is

in charge of the care of patients with overweight and grade 1 obesity. The article summarizes the basic diagnostic strategies in

the general practitioner’s surgery and reviews the current options of obesity treatment with an emphasis on the collaboration

of the general practitioner with nutritional therapists, psychologists, and physiotherapists. The follow-up care is provided by an

obesitologist and/or bariatric centres.
