Obstructive defecation syndrome (ODS) is a common problem of many women as well as men seeking gastroenterological or proctological examination due to chronical obstipation or other defecation disorders. Most often the patients with defecation problems and obstipation contact their general practitioner. However, the cause of obstructive defecation syndrome is a number of combinations concerning many functional and anatomical disorders of the pelvic floor and the organs in the small pelvis. Therefore, the diagnosis and the consequent treatment should focus on all possible causes. Only a well taken anamnesis, multidisciplinary approach, a combination of conservative procedures and correctly indicated surgical treatment leads to good long-term results.

Keywords: obstipation, defecation, prolapse, rectocele, STARR.
