When to refer a patient to a nephrologist - according to what symptoms

The number of patients with chronic kidney disease is high worldwide. It is important to focus on those at risk of progression to kidney failure or cardiovascular complications, and refer them to a nephrologist or other specialist. This article aims to provide practitioners with guidance on a simple investigative procedure using available laboratory methods to identify these patients.
