Fats are often spoken of in negative terms whether it is in association with cholesterol or overweight or cardiovascular diseases. Such a simplified
view of lipids, however, does not reflect the reality. An example of this can be monoenoic and polyenoic fatty acids that have a wide
spectrum of very important physiological effects in the human organism and their intake is important for maintaining the health of the body.
This paper is focused on one of the groups of fatty acids, the so-called omega-3 fatty acids, that are significant for the clinical practice
not only in terms of disease prevention, but also as effective treatment of serious clinical conditions.
