Accidents represent an undesirable phenomenon, which involves considerable costs and affects the victims' personal, professional and social life. Therefore, a number of rules have been laid down for the assessment, recognition and compensation of accidents. General practitioners participate in several levels of decision-making concerning compensation of accidents; their role and tasks differ in cases of general accidents, and occupational accidents . This article describes the obligations of the parties involved, and provides an overview of the compensation of health damage and the basic principles of its assessment. At the same time, it draws attention to the impact of different approaches to general and occupational accidents, which results from deficient legislation.
