Educational narrative review apply to diagnostic procedures and treatment of the functional dyspepsia with respect to the Rome III and traditional Czech classification. The special mention is to functional overlal syndromes, treatment of PPI and positivity of H. pylori in patient with functional dyspesia. Therapy of functional dyspepsia have to be complex that is pharmacological and non-pharmacologial inclusively psychological investigation. The accent is put on very well treatment effect of sulpirid.

Thyroid gland and diabetes mellitus from the perspective of a diabetologist

The prevalences of diabetes mellitus, particularly of type 2, as well as of thyroid diseases have been increasing in recent years and are becoming a major problem in developed civilizations not only in medical, but also in social terms. Endocrinopathies occur much more frequently in diabetic patients than in those without diabetes, with the thyroid gland being the most commonly affected gland in diabetics (which is the same in the nondiabetic population). The most significant thyroid diseases in diabetics are autoimmune thyroiditides – due to both their high prevalence in diabetics and the severity of clinical impacts on diabetes treatment.

The article summarizes the basic literature knowledge concerning this issue, making reference to the Rating Anxiety in Dementia (RAID) scale by Shankar, et al. and the revised diagnostic criteria for generalized anxiety disorder in persons with dementia as proposed by Starkstein, et al. Also presented are some recommendations concerning psychotherapeutic approaches and pharmacotherapy of anxiety disorders in the elderly with dementia.

Thyroid-associated orbitopathy is a chronic autoimmune disease with a proven connection to thyroid autoimmunity. Most often, patients with Graves-Basedow disease are affected, however, it may also occur in those with autoimmune thyroiditis. This condition affects all the structures of the orbit – extraocular muscles, orbital fat and connective tissue, orbital septum and tear gland. Viral hepatitis A and E are relatively common acute liver diseases. In immunosuppressed persons chronic hepatitis E is possible as well. Vaccine against hepatitis A virus is accessible for a long time, safe, and highly effective.
