Atherosclerotic disease affects women to similar extent as men. Nevertheless, in women atherosclerosis develops and progresses later in life. Regarding atherosclerotic changes and cardiovascular risk factors, women are more susceptible to smoking, diabetes mellitus and dyslipidemia, the latter mainly represented by remnant lipoproteins; mechanisms of this increased sensitivity are not yet known. Treatment options in multiple sclerosis have expanded considerably in the recent years. In 2013, several new effective drugs were registered and more will be introduced in therapeutic practice in the coming years. However, the availability of drugs is limited due to restrictions of health care payers. Reimbursement regulations are often in conflict with evidence-based medicine. This article deals with both the good prospects in treating multiple sclerosis including an overview of new drugs and the current situation in the Czech Republic. The article presents specific cases of discrepancy between therapeutic options and the clinical reality.

Allergist should be an integral part of a comprehensive care for atopic eczema. Allergist should prioritize the detection of potential and right triggers. There are plenty of diagnostic procedures, but the interpretation of results is difficult. The treatment success often necessarily includes a therapeutic trial, for example the elimination diet, a variety of immunointerventions or even the specific immunotherapy by etiologically relevant aeroallergens.

Serotonin syndrome is a rare potentially life-threatening condition, which is caused by drugs with serotoninergic aktivity. It is characterized by mental status changes, autonomic instability and neuromuscular hyperactivity. Patients with moderate and severe cases of serotonin toxicity require hospitalisation. Diagnostic problems are documented by several case reports published in medical literature, the diagnostic criteria are explained and the list of drugs which can cause the serotonin syndrome is presented in this article.

The aim of this review is to highlight the risks of contemporary lifestyle.Currently continually points to the risks of hypomobility and immobilisation. Few, however, realize how close to this hypomobility through our lifestyle we are. The present review summarizes the effects of physical activity and points to the risks of hypoactivity. In the second part of the review are presented the possibilities of prevention and self-treatment.
